On the packaging of SOPREMA products, you can always find an EAN code. In addition, we also make the Declaration of Performance (DoP) of each product available online in PDF format. But what is the point of an EAN code and a DoP? And are they important? In this article, we provide a brief explanation.
A DoP number versus an EAN code
Since 1 July 2013, manufacturers, importers and suppliers of building materials are required to provide a Declaration of Performance for each CE-marked product. Declarations of Performance are abbreviated to DoP. The figures in the document give you more information about the main performance of the product and its intended use.
You can also find a European Article Numbering or EAN code on the packaging of all SOPREMA products. This 13-digit code is used by suppliers around the world to identify products and manage inventory. This code is therefore not that important for the buyer of the product.
The importance of the DoP number
The DoP number provides information that is likely to be more important for you. The Declaration of Performance is a guarantee that all SOPREMA products meet the specific requirements of the European Union. Each product is tested according to harmonised European methods and the results of the tests are stated in the DoP. The performance pertains to the following factors:
- Mechanical resistance and stability
- Fire safety
- Hygiene, health and environment
- Safety, accessibility in use
- Protection against noise pollution
- Energy saving and heat retention
- Sustainable use of natural resources
Thanks to the DoP, you can compare the different SOPREMA products and be able to find the right product for each application.
